'I could have been a doctor, but there were too many good shows on TV.' ~ Jason Love. Anybody who know me knows I enjoy a good TV show, its how I like to end a busy day. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of my parents making popcorn and sitting down together to watch Dukes Of Hazzard, Airwolf or Loveboat on a Friday night. Well if you enjoy spending some family time around the tellie, here are some shows you might want to check out. Remember, some of the shows are for grown-ups only!
5 NEW SHOWS TO CHECK OUT THIS FALL - There seems to be something for everyone!
Allen Gregory (Fox)
Premieres: Sunday, Oct. 30 at 8:30
Created and voiced by Jonah Hill, this animated comedy introduces us to precocious 7-year-old Allen Gregory DeLonpre (Hill), who after being homeschooled all his life by his father, Richard (French Stewart), embarks on his biggest challenge yet: attending public school. Naturally, he doesn't have the easiest time fitting in. This show might be the dark horse of my picks. A little cliche but Jonah Hill's delivery usually makes me laugh. Do we need another smart alec cartoon kid. Hmmm....we'll see...but give this one a couple of episodes to find its groove.
Charlie's Angels (ABC)
Premieres: Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8/7c
Hello, Angels! This frothy, Miami-set show stars Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh as the latest incarnation of the crime-fighting trio - but it doesn't start out that way. Eve (Kelly), a rogue street racer, joins the group after her childhood friend/original Angel Gloria is murdered. Something tells us she'll fit in just fine. I just hope this show has a little bit of the cheese factor the original had. If it becomes just a slick 'Miami Vice' reboot...it won't be on television for very long. Fun fact: The series will premiere on the same day the original show debuted 35 years ago.
Person of Interest (CBS)
Premieres: Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9/8c
Remember Minority Report? This show is basically that but sans Tom Cruise. However J.J. Abrams is the brain behind it...and he has to be one of the best in the sci-fi genre. So if you know J.J. Abrams...you know its going to be a bit confusing...but here's the deal: Finch (Michael Emerson) is a mysterious (could Emerson play anything less?) billionaire who has created a surveillance program for the government that identifies people who will be involved in a future crime - either as a perp or a victim. Finch reaches out to Reese (Jim Caviezel), a presumed-dead CIA agent-turned-drunk, to stop the crimes before they occur. Got it?
Terra Nova (Fox)
Premieres: Monday, Sept. 26 at 8/7c
So if Person of Interest is the TV version of Minority Report then Terra Nova is Jurassic Park! And once again this show might be worth checking out since Steven Spielberg is the executive producer...has he ever put out anything bad? This dino drama - is bout the Shannon family (led by Jason O'Mara) who travels back to prehistoric Earth to save the human race...and the show will have all of our favourite dinosaurs. Its too bad they could land Jeff Goldblum for one of the characters....that would be priceless. If they ever make a movie based on the show...wonder what they would call it...hmmm?
The X Factor (Fox)
Premieres: Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8/7c
Simon Cowell is back with his American Idol killer X-Factor. Love this show in the UK. Love the fact that when Simon gets into a show war he comes ready to play. X-Factor will be far superior to any other singing show on television! Here are the reasons... 1. Biggest purse ever on TV....5 million dollars up for grabs. 2. No age restrictions. 3. Auditions are in front of a live crowd...you better be able to perform! 4. Paula Abdul is a bit crazy and 5. You will like the new host....not as pretentious as Seacrest. Plus each judge will mentor one of four groups. Just a more interesting concept with a better cast of characters. Enjoy!
