We Are The Champions!

"Winning takes talent, to repeat takes character." ~ John Wooden. Its time to put the wrap on another fantastic Vernon Vipers season. A second consecutive RBC Cup and a 6th national championship for the most succesful Junior A hockey franchise in this country. There is no other team that even comes close to the Vernon Vipers. Period. On today's blog, a special Vipers wrap up including a 'Paint The Town Greene' video.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS - again...and again...and again (does it sound like I am bragging?)
Often I am asked from friends, family members and generally people on the street...'How about them Vipers'? This question usually leads into a one hour conversation where I re-live the last 20 seasons starting with my first games back in 1989. Sure I went to the odd Lakers game when I was a kid...but I really got into the team when they made a run at their first Centennial Cup Championship. Since then....I have been a huge fan. Now six cups later, it suprising that it never gets old celebrating with the team. Sure we don't lace them up or take a hit or even sit on the bench...but for the faithful fan...we feel every loss and enjoy every win, especially if like me...you were born and raised in this city. I will admit, we are a spoiled bunch...its easy to forget that there are teams in the country that have been around for 35 plus years that have never even had a sniff of a National Championship...and here we are with six of them! Anyways....its been a blast! First off thank you to Dr. Duncan Wray, Todd Miller and Heidi Schraeder who work so hard behind the scenes. Two of the best coaches I have ever dealt with Mark and Jason...and the players have always been fantastic in dealing with the media. I will miss my chats with Graeme Gordon, Robbie Short and Kevin Kraus...all really exceptional gentlemen. In fact...I can't think of a player that ever turned down an interview or made my job difficult. So a big congrats...and thanks for another incredible and memorable season.
