Save Of The Year

"It's pretty tough for a goalie when you look at it. You're always the last line of defense. If you let a goal in you can't go to the bench and hide between the guys or anything." ~Kirk McLean. In game 7 of the BCHL Finals, Graeme Gordon was the last line of defense, and made arguably the biggest save of the year to secure the Vipers 3-1 win over the Powell River Kings.
GAME 7's SAVE OF THE YEAR - Vipers BCHL Champions AGAIN!
Game 7 of the BCHL finals. The Vernon Vipers take a 2-1 lead over the Powell River Kings with 5 minutes remaining in the game, and the one thing that is for sure when it comes to the Kings...they never give up. The Kings have proven themselves over and over again...they can always find the equalizer in a close game. So sitting in the press box, the only thought I had at that point was for the Vipers to hold on. And I have to admit...I kind of figured it was going to come down to a good bounce in favour of the Snakes to avoid overtime. But what I witnessed was one of the best saves of the year and redemption for a player I am a huge supporter of. Getting to talk to Gordon this year during our 'In The Crease' show, I found him to be open and honest with his answers never shying away from the tough questions. SO for him to have a great playoff run...but more importantly helping his team win this game with a first star performance...I was pretty excited. Another guy I was cheering for was Sahir Gill who scored the game winner. Here's a guy that has had to work hard to get back into the team's good graces as well as win some fans back after jetting for Chicago during the off season last year. All in all, I hope these guys can do it again, but win or lose they have accomplished a lot...especially helping the team win a record 11th BCHL championship. Here is an exclusive video of the final 5 minutes of BCHL finals compressed into a couple of minutes including the 'SAVE OF THE YEAR'. Enjoy and if you want double click the video to watch it in HD.

In the Okanagan we have been treated to two excellent levels of the sports both the Senior Mens lacrosse (OXL) and the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League put out an entertaining product. The Vernon Royals have undergone a name change reverting back to the Senior Tigers, while Shamrocks are coming off a silver medal performance at the provincials. Also the Vernon Jr. Tigers come into the 2010 season has the defending league champions. They'll have to wait for their return of one of their stars as Robbie Short is still playing for the Vernon Vipers. The teams seems to be gearing up for a big season...both the Sr. Tigers and Armstrong Shamrocks have launched brand new websites. And if you are in need of a good sports website provider check out www.teamwebsitehosting.com. The company is fantastic to deal with and super helpful.
