Roll Up The Rim Round 5

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

robblogsm-02-03-2010"The only sure thing about luck is that it will change."  ~Wilson Mizner. That quote would be true...unless you're playing Tim Horton's Roll Up The Rim To WIN. Today's blog covers my love-hate relationship with the Canadian coffee giant and also a behind the scenes video that I shot with Lori Hancock at Vernon City Council. ROB'S video BLOG is brand new and it won't leave you feeling empty, like 'Tim's Rim'! (insert Beavis laugh here).

ROLL UP THE RIM - and lose...lose...lose!:

Is there anything more Canadian than grabbing your cup of Tim Hortons, heading off with the kids to play some shinny hockey on the outdoor rink...all while listening to Bachman-Turner Overdrive's 'Takin Care Of Business'? I think not. And what is becoming as much of a Canadian tradition as watching the snow melt in March...so is Tim Horton's Roll The Rim To Win contest. Now if you are reading this BLOG somewhere other than Canada, here's the deal: People from all over...flock to their nearest Tim Hortons Coffee outlet to buy a paper cup that could have a prize listed under its rim. Therefore...you roll it up and see if you have won. In my case not often enough...and usually its just a donut or a small coffee. However at the station...winning has become a source of competition and trash talking. People flaunt their winnings like its the Stanley Cup. Former morning man, Frank Martina once won like 10 prizes out of 22 cups. That's when it started...my love/hate relationship. Since Frank would always brag, my former co-host Lynda Parcells and I decided to try and take him down. That started the epic fail known as '0-for-35'! 35 cups of Coffee and not even a muffin. Since then we have been keeping score. This is Round number 5. I don't have the official stats but I think I am about 10 for 150 cups of coffee. I average about 30 cups during the contest. SO...once again we will keep track and see if my luck changes this time. However, I am always looking to hear about people who have won big...or have lost as much as I have. Drop me an email if you have an interesting story about the Tim Hortons contest. Also if you want to track where the winners are coming from nationally...then CHECK THIS OUT.

JUDGING WITH THE MAYORS - 'Better than a Town-hall meeting!'

Lori and I had the honour this week to spend an hour or so hanging out with Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert and Spallumcheen Mayor Will Hansma to select the finalists for the Kindale Developmental Association's 'Winter - Say Cheese' photo contest. Lots of fun seeing the mayors joke around...The finalists will be on display at the Village Green Mall from now until March 7th. The public will vote on the winners in different categories. Future shop is putting up six digital cameras and The Village Cheese company is putting up six gourmet cheese packs for the finalists as well.  The winner will be announced on Saturday, March 13th @ The Village Cheese Company in Armstrong. Check out the video for a behind the scenes look at the judging process.
