Fun Friday!

Ahhh its finally here...Fun Friday! Time to kick off the work boots and call it a weekend. On Rob's Blog, much like it is in my 'real life', Friday will always include some fun and silliness, hence the term 'Fun Friday'. Normally, after a hard days work which ends around noon...I grab my buddies and head out for a pop. This is where we discuss love, life and what it all really means. HA! Actually we talk and watch sports, computers and all things that our significant others really could care less about. So with that...I introduce you to my Fun Friday...starting out with some cool mash-up vids.
MIX IT UP DUDE (Shaken not stirred):
I am relatively new to the mash-up. Back in my day they were called master mixes and the Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers maybe had one of the biggest remixes of all time in 1989 called 'That's What I Like'. Now mashups have taken over and there are some brilliant ones out there. I have included a few in the video player. DJ Earworm has maybe one of the best ones out there. 'United State Of Pop 2009' takes the top 25 pop songs from last year and puts them together in one supermix. X-factor twins Jedward annoyed most of Britain during the competition however came up big with "Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)" which just hit number one the UK charts. The song takes Queen's 'Under Pressure' and mixes it with Vanilla Ice's 'Ice Ice Baby' (watch the vid...you will see a cameo with Rob Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice). I've included the live performance in the player...but here is the link to the real video. There's also a new group that is absolutely hilarious called Rock Sugar. The story behind these guys is that they were a huge glam band in 1989, were going to play for a little girls party, wound up stranded on a deserted island for 20 years listening to the girls pop music, and when they finally got back to Hollywood they had a brand new sound. Jessica Matthews of the American Council on Exercise reports this is how many comfort food calories these snow season actives burn off (based on a 140 pound woman):
Sledding -- for 30 minutes burns 221 calories, or 3 half ounce Godiva chocolate squares
Cross country skiing -- for 60 minutes burns 504 calories, or one cup of Kraft mac 'n cheese
Downhill skiing -- for 90 minutes burns 567 calories, or 4 Pillsbury chocolate chip cookies
Ice skating -- for 30 minutes burns 173 calories, or an 8 ounce mug of Swiss Miss hot chocolate
Snowboarding -- for 45 minutes burns 284 calories, or a slice of Sara Lee cheesecake

People always ask what's it like to spend the morning in the booth with Lori Hancock. Well actually I really don't sit in the booth with LH. Instead I'm in a booth with Glen Morrison. Yeah its like the 'BOYS ONLY' club house. In the picture you can see the seat facing the computer...that's Glen's spot. I am the lone chair on the right, sniff sniff. THE WEEKEND (YEAH...SO WHAT?)
Well I will have Friday night off...but back at first thing in the morning. Join me on location at the Vernon Lodge Hotel's Ballroom. Guccini Leather Londonderry Mall Edmonton is bringing their stock to Vernon and there are going to be some great deals to be had. Will be on location Sat 10-2p and Sun 11-3pm. Speaking of Sunday...our Vernon Vipers close out the regular season with an afternoon matinee against the Surrey Eagles.
