Free Immobilzers For Trucks

It's a great deal for owners of Ford pick-ups in the Okanagan.
ICBC is offering a free anti-theft immobilizer for people with Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks --model years 1999 to 2007-- in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton.
RCMP Sgt. Gord Elias says those trucks are the most often stolen vehicles in BC, and the $175 electronic units make them virtually impossible to steal.
"Thieves choose them because they are powerful, they know how to steal them and they are often used to commit other serious crimes. Now we are targeting the thieves who steal these vehicles."
ICBC will be sending out letters to eligible customers containing the offer and a voucher in batches to minimize the impact on participating retailers.
The program is also being offered in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
Anti theft programs like the immobilizers, and BAIT cars, have led to a 55 percent drop in the number of stolen vehicles in BC, since 2003.
