Total domination.
That's how best to describe the Vernon Vipers 6-0 win over the Penticton Vees in game 1 of the BCHL's Interior conference final before 2,082 fans at Wesbild Centre.
Graeme Gordon posted his third straight shutout with 19 saves as the Vees were kept off the score board for the first time all season.
20 year old Calgary product Dan Nycholat led the offence with two goals and was named first star.
Jon Milhouse also had a strong game with 1 plus 1. His goal with just 2 seconds left on a breakaway in the first period was perhaps the game's turning point, giving the Vipers a 2-0 lead.
Vees all star goalie Sean Bonar didn't get a lot of help from his defence and looked ordinary as he was shelled by 47 Vipers shots.
Other Vernon goals came from Kellen Jones, Garrett Noonan and Rob Short, short-handed.
Top Vees Denver Manderson and Beau Bennett were held in check during the game. Gordon was solid but didn't have to make any spectacular saves.
Game 2 in the best of 7 series goes Saturday night at Wesbild Centre.
Tickets will be on sale from 10 am to game time at the arena.
Games 3 and 4 will be at the South Okanagan Events Centre Tuesday and Wednesday.
All Viper games will be broadcast on KISS FM with Todd Miller and Don Klepp.
Game 1 of the coastal final was won 4-3 by visiting Powell River over Alberni Valley on a goal by Chad Niddery 15:14 into the first overtime.
