City Leaving Regional Fire Dispatch

The city of Vernon is getting out of NORD's fire dispatch service.

Mayor Wayne Lippert says the city plans to run its own dispatch, and is serving a notice of withdrawal to the regional district.

He says NORD communities will be able to contract the service through the city.

"The cost to each jurisdiction will remain approximately the same as it has been with the old equipment, so this is new updated equipment for the same price as the old stuff, as far as service for them."

Lippert says they need to upgrade the service to meet tougher standards and address liability concerns.
