The San Francisco 49ers won their first game of the NFL season on Sunday, beating the New York Giants. The highlight of the game was an 83-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Marquise Goodwin who, after crossing the goal line, sank to his knees in the end zone. It wasn’t until after the game that viewers and fans learned why.
On Instagram Sunday night, the 26-year-old former Olympian announced that hours before the game, he and his wife Morgan lost their son.
“I just wanna thank those who’s genuinely prayer for @morganakamomo & myself throughout this pregnancy,” wrote Goodwin. “Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am.”
He continued, “Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family.”
The couple had announced their pregnancy in September, writing that the baby was due in 2018.
The fact that Goodwin was able to take the field on Sunday, considering both his obviously emotional not to mention physical exhaustion, is astounding. How he PERFORMED….is unbelievable. May this guy long be an example of bravely stepping up in the face of adversity. God bless the Goodwin family, indeed. ~ Jason
