Lake Country is not unlike other communities trying to help people find affordable housing.
Mayor James Baker says more young families are moving to the area.
“And we do need to fill that either with rental housing and/or smaller type of housing units that come on the market at a lower price than half a million dollars.”
Baker says new Municipal Affairs Minister Selena Robinson was attentive to their needs when Lake Country representatives met with her recently.
There is temporary housing for farm workers and foreign workers but there is a need for younger families who..
“Either do work here in the orchards, but have no place to actually purchase that is within their salary ranges.”
Baker says there are programs both federally and provincially the District could seek.
