It was a good weekend for crews tackling the Finlay Creek Wildfire southwest of Peachland.
Heather Rice with the Wildfire Service says the fire is now 65 per cent contained.
“And the guys just being able to tie all the guards in together and the weather certainly has helped. We haven’t had significant winds, which is always helpful. So, yeah we continue to make good progress.”
The number of personnel brought in to fight the fire has increased.
“We have a total of 162 personnel on the fire now. that includes the firefighters also from Ontario and Quebec as well as structural protection staff, etc.”
An area restriction surrounding the fire zone remains in effect.
“And will continue to be so, either until the end of October or sooner if things allow.”
Only residents allowed back into their homes can be in the area.
Over the weekend, an evacuation order affecting 55 properties in the Fish Lake area was downgraded to an alert.
