The new speaker of the BC Legislature is creating some controversy.
Liberal MLA Darryl Plecas has accepted the position and will support the NDP minority government- after earlier telling the Liberals he wasn’t interested in the role.
The Abbotford South rep was the only MLA to put his name forward.
The defection gives the Green-backed NDP government a three-seat majority and more breathing room to pass legislation.
Interim Liberal leader Rich Coleman says he’s disappointed in Plecas’ decision.
