Fire crews worked through the night after 18 homes were ordered evacuated and 165 placed on alert due to an out-of-control wildfire in Kaleden, south of Penticton.
Residents of about 100 homes left their homes voluntarily after the fire broke out late yesterday afternoon.
Two homes are reported to have burned and the fire was dangerously close to others at last report late last night.
BC Wildfire crews and air support were called in to assist both the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department.
Thirty-five firefighters spent the night trying to contain the fire.
It’s not known how it started, but the Fire Chief in Kaleden says the first report came in as a couple of trees on fire.
That quickly spread.
