Having a yard sale this summer? Be very, very careful if you’re unloading any jewellery.
About thirty years ago, some poor guy in London made a foolish move by hocking a 26-carat diamond ring out of the back of his car at a boot sale (sort of like a marketplace where people sell personal items from their vehicle).
The diamond, which originally sold for the 1980’s pound equivalent of $13, is actually worth up to 35,000 plus times that, as it was recently valued at anywhere from $375,000 to $456,000. The current owner of this precious stone says that she just bought it thinking it was costume jewellery.
The gem is actually a white diamond from the 19th century. The buyer had no idea the diamond was real. Now, it’s set to be sold at a Sotheby’s auction on June 7th.
