Yesterday we were pleased to have members of the The Good Food Box Program in to discuss the perks of it. Diane Fleming, the co-ordinator and Donna Antonishak, program volunteer, and also a member of The Optimist Club, relayed the message that you can “eat fresh for less” and “reduce your grocery bill” at the same time. If you see these flyers around town, be sure to pick them up. Very valuable information on how you can continue to help your family and yourself stay healthy with eating fresh food that’s local at a very reasonable price.
The program has grown since it’s beginning in 2000. There are several payment locations involved in the Good Food Program in Vernon, Lumby, Cherryville, Westside Road/Parker Cove, Armstrong, and Falkland.
For those who can’t pick up the produce, there is just a $3.00 fee for delivery.
They also mentioned that the community kitchens and gardens and Food Action Society are good sources as well.
Diane and Donna also mentioned that the Good Food Box Program is always looking for volunteers, especially over the summer months. For details go to www.goodfoodbox.net or call 250-275-8814.
