One great accomplishment in life, for me, would be to have an obituary that makes people laugh. Death is sad, but if your memory can make people smile, even with a few lines in the paper, it would be a little easier to deal with.
Loretta Workun must have thought the same thing, after she passed away at the end of May, her family posted an obituary in the Edmonton Journal that made everyone smile, even those who didn’t know her.
Not only is Loretta described as a “kick ass sporty mom” but she was also grumpy and fiery till the end, something I hope to accomplish one day.
She also must have been a serious Oilers fan, because in the last line, the 85 year old warns that if the team doesn’t win next year she’s not above haunting Rogers Place.
Rest in peace, Loretta, I never knew you, but I appreciate your spunk and hope that your name lives on in Rogers Place every time a chair unexpectedly falls over or a cold breeze makes your hair stand on end.
