We are mere days away from the May Long Weekend, and the unofficial start to summer!
Traditionally, this is the weekend people bring out the camping gear and … well … camp. May camping is never for the faint of heart though, I’ve seen everything from blazing hot summer conditions to several centimetres of snow, depending on the year and the campsite location. So when I came across this video, I thought specifically of the challenges I’ve met during early and late season camping.
I’m typically traditional in the way I like to start a campfire, having spent all those years as a boy scout, but there was one May Long where it just didn’t work. My wife and I were only dating at the time, but we were camping in the Kootenays – It was cold and damp and I was getting mildly frustrated trying to start the fire for breakfast. After listening to me gripe for 20 minutes, she came over, squirted everything with lighter fluid and threw a match on it.
Sometimes women are just better at things.
Anyhow, the tips in this video not only look functional, but also look like a lot of fun to put together. Good luck and good camping.
