Good news for us impatient shoppers, two statisticians from the University of Sussex have some tips for choosing the fastest line.
They say data has shown female cashiers are faster, and to stand in a line that feeds into several cashiers.
Opt for checkouts on the left (as most people tend to move to the right), and stand behind a person with a shopping cart as opposed to a few people with handheld baskets, as it’ll save time on face-to-face interactions.
Who knew this was such a science?
Ultimately, though, there are too many variables to tell for certain which line will go faster, so you’ll just have to take a chance
