One particular Cinco de Mayo celebration got out of hand on Friday..
A Colorado Spanish teacher has been placed on paid leave after allegedly letting students destroy a pinata with President Trump’s face on it. Weld County school district officials are investigating Jay Moser, a Spanish teacher at Roosevelt High School in Johnstown after photos and videos of students taking turns hitting the pinata with a baseball bat surfaced online. It was part of Moser’s Cinco de Mayo celebration.
A local Fox affiliate reported that witnesses said the pinata had a photo of Mr. Trump’s face on one side and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto’s face on the other.
Superintendent Martin Foster called it an “incredibly disrepectful act” that does not represent the values of the high school or the school district.
A parent who posted photos of the event on Facebook Friday night told the Greeley Tribune that parents “have a right to know” what their children are being taught in school. She said she is not a Trump supporter, but still feels the act was inappropriate.
What do you think? Did the district do the right thing in temporarily removing the teacher, or has the whole thing been blown out of proportion? ~ Jason
