The part that is really interesting to me, is the regular social conventions that go out the window with events like this. Now, in Kentucky, the big hat thing is kind of a thing – but for the rest of North American society, we can rarely get away with such ridiculous attire. Go ahead and attach an event to it though, and you can get away with all kinds of stuff.
Now that I’m thinking of it, maybe big hats, pink beards, and baby blue rose suits (even if the roses look like tulips and a bunch of other people are wearing it too) are just the thing we need. When we see other people wear outrageous clothes and accessories, it causes the “If they can do it, I can do it too” response – and that’s just what we need to break societal norms.
