Tuesday morning, we were lucky enough to have a chat with Kayla Read, who is raising awareness for workplace mental health while she hikes the Pacific Crest Trail.
Read starts her journey on May 12th in Campo, California and will finish in Manning Park, B.C. by October of this year.
The PCT is 4265 km long, and Read is hoping to raise 5$ for every kilometre she hikes to support CMHA Vernon in building awareness about workplace mental health and offer innovative programs for employers and employees to address workplace mental health concerns.
“This fundraiser has evolved into my passion project. I truly believe there is a direct correlation between eco-therapy and mental health and wellness. Many people struggle with mental health issues and commonly grasp for inappropriate and even damaging coping tools, eco-therapy on the other hand, can help this same group and even improve their quality of life.
Before Kayla leaves she will be participating in a community acupuncture fundraiser at Paradigm Naturopathic Clinic May 2nd from 9am-12.
