Students at Kalamalka Secondary School are going to get a special lesson on drugs and alcohol.
Vernon School Board is bringing in two Vancouver police officers dubbed the Odd Squad to give a Power Point presentation on their award winning video ” Through A Blue Lens.”
That’s the title of an award winning video by the officers who worked Vancouver’s downtown eastside dealing with drugs and alcohol issues.
School District Substance Abuse Prevention Counsellor Doug Rogers says it’s part of a curriculum piece to keep the topic going.
” we try to chat with the kids and adults about making better choices and better planning around drugs and alcohol where, you know, we try to teach our kids to stay away.”
Doug Rogers also says it’s about eliminating perceptions.
” And in fact shows us those folks are like us. They made some bad choices along the way. There may be some mental health issues involved, but either way these are people that have families and they need our help.”
He says it’s not meant to shock people.
” I think we really need to get the messaging out even more that when we’re messing with things, drugs and alcohol that we shouldn’t be messing with, they could be life changing.”
The presentation will take place at 7 pm on April 27th
