This weekend was one of the first in a while where I haven’t been super busy, so I decided to tick some things off of my to do list.
In addition to cleaning the house, dropping off an old coffee table at the SPCA, washing my car, and going through my closet to donate old clothes…I wanted to make a bookshelf.
I saw this DIY on Pinterest, and I could give you the step by step instructions, but really when you see the photo I’m sure you can figure it out yourself.
I bought 4 wooden crates from WalMart a few weeks ago and the first step was to stain them…which actually took a lot longer than I originally thought it would, and to prove it, I have speckles of “Dark Walnut” all over my arms and legs.
I would recommend doing this on a dry sunny day so you can utilize the fresh air and warmth, both for your sanity and the quick drying of your crates.
After everything had dried, I grabbed a few nails and figured out the best way to hammer this thing together. Note: the four crates don’t fit together perfectly, there is a space in the middle.
And voila! The finished product, my boyfriend says I missed a few spots, I say it’s “rustic.” Oh and if you were wondering, that photo is Biggie, the most beautiful bulldog that ever lived.
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, it looks a lot better than the 3 tier tin shelf that stood in it’s place on Friday afternoon, I wouldn’t try and lift the whole thing with all of the DVD’s in it, but for the most part it seems sturdy.
For an actual tutorial you can click HERE, and if you do end up doing it…let me know!
