1977. The movie ‘Star Wars’ opened in theatres. ‘Laverne and Shirley’ was the number one TV show in North America. The first Apple II home computer was sold. And it’s the last John Munsnuff saw of his family’s Jeep before it was buried by shifting sand dunes.
Work crews recently pulled out the rusted remnants of what Munsnuff said was his family’s ‘beach buggy’ at the home they’ve owned near Ballston Beach in Cape Cod.
Four decades ago, shifting sand dunes buried the the garage that housed the jeep, and the family, until recently, was unable to dig out the vehicle because of environmental regulations around the dunes, which have also swallowed up parts of a nearby town beach parking lot. The Jeep, once painted white with a green interio, emerged barely unrecognizable. Check out the footage here…
