Police say no charges or fines will be issued after a pedestrian was hit by a car on Vernon’s Bella Vista Road last month.
Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy says a car was travelling west in the 51-hundred block around 7 pm Feb. 27 when it hit a 56 year old man walking in the same direction.
“It was extremely dark on that section of the road, and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.
The 23 year old female driver is not facing charges in the incident,” says Noseworthy.
The man was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
“He was banged-up apparently, but he is going to be fine,” adds Noseworthy.
Police are recommending pedestrians wear lights or reflectors to make themselves visible to motorists.
“Reflectors are a wonderful thing. There are some great little lights out now that you can stick on. Anything that helps people see you,” says Noseworthy.
The constable says the man was walking with his back to the traffic, contrary to the general rule to walk facing traffic.
