Man, it certainly wasn’t a banner night in Hollywood in terms of mistakes..
In addition to what’s now being referred to as ‘Envelopegate’, in which ‘La La Land’ was mistakenly named best picture when ‘Moonlight’ actually won, the Academy sort of killed the wrong person.
Here’s what happened…
During the ‘In Memoriam’ tribute to industry artists who died during the past year, the death of an Australian costume designer, Janet Patterson, was noted.
….unfortunately, the image that appeared was of someone who is still very much alive.
Australian producer Jan Chapman’s picture was displayed during the video montage, not Patterson, and Chapman wasn’t too impressed with the mix-up. “I was devastated by the use of my image in place of my great friend and long-time collaborator.” Chapman told ‘Variety’.
Every year the Academy takes heat for its “In Memoriam” tribute, often because of who is not included. This year, the big omission appears to be Alexis Arquette, who died in September. Arquette’s sister, actress Patricia Arquette, has already voiced her displeasure with a number of sources. ~ Jason
