Who’s ready to party?
This Sunday night, it’s the annual event that film fans wait all year for – Oscar Night! And once again, KISS FM is proud to be part of Vernon’s hottest Oscar party, the Red Carpet bash at the Vernon Towne Theatre. sponsored by Wooley & Co. Lawyers. Why not get dressed up in your finest threads, walk the red carpet with us, and enjoy the show on the big, big screen? There will be prizes galore, a wine bar, and best of all, proceeds support the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
BUT…before we get settled in for the awards ceremony, we have to log our picks, so here we go…..the Aisle Seat’s annual predictions of which Hollywood heavyweights will take home the hardware.
BEST DIRECTOR: Damien Chazelle, ‘La La Land’
My sentimental favorite is Mel Gibson for ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, but poor Mel…even in comeback mode….doesn’t stand a chance against Chazelle as he rides the momentum of this year’s Oscar darling across the finish line.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Viola Davis, ‘Fences’
This one is the biggest slam dunk out of all of the major categories. Davis can safely start dusting the mantle right now, it’s a done deal.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Dev Patel, ‘Lion’
I know that Mahershala Ali is the favorite for ‘Moonlight’, but I smell an upset here. Oh, and popcorn. I smell popcorn.
BEST ACTRESS: Emma Stone, ‘La La Land’
No way Stone loses. No. Way. (….well, y’know, unless she DOES, and then I’ll just fill in some excuse..)
BEST ACTOR: Casey Affleck, ‘Manchester By The Sea’
Full credit, this was the best performance of the year. Dude’s a lot more than Ben’s little brother now.
BEST PICTURE: ‘La La Land’
Barring any wacky curve balls, this is the one to beat.
