After a tough loss in front of a huge home crowd on Friday night to the league leading Wenatchee Wild, the Vipers returned to the win column Saturday with a 3-1 victory over the visiting West Kelowna Warriors.
Brett Stapley, Ryan Brushett and Austin Adamson had the goals for Vernon, while Steven Jandric pitched in with two assists. Vernon carried the majority of play on the night, despite a second period lapse in which the Warriors outshot the Vipers, 23-8. The Snakes enjoyed another stellar effort from netminder Darion Hanson who stopped 38 shots.
1,582 fans took in the Interior showdown, with the win sealing second place in the division for the Vipers as they now sit eleven points ahead of the third place Smoke Eaters. Trail, West Kelowna and Merritt continue to joust for position in the standings with only four points separating the three teams. Next action for Vernon is Friday night as they’ll host the Victoria Grizzlies, 7pm at Kal Tire Place.
Elsewhere, in a battle of league leaders, the Penticton Vee’s shut out the Wenatchee Wild 2-0 on Saturday night, in front of over 4,000 fans at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
