Several musicians are proud to call Vernon their home or old-stomping grounds. Andrew Allen, Darby Mills, Daniel Powter, just to name a few. Another local band has a great fan following as well. They’re known as //Amistad//. Recently their manager Joe Pinheiro sent an update on them.
“We’ve been promoting the 3rd single & video DARKERSIDE, primarily to Europe and the first few weeks of the year have been very kind.”
Yesterday Amistad’s lead singer Aidan Andrews joined me on the Kiss FM Lunch Break and filled us in on his life. He’s in Grade 12 at Seaton High School and is enjoying French, English and it comes as no surprise that he wants to pursue a career in music. He’s been writing his own songs since he was 10 and one of his “biggest musical influences is Greenday.” Aidan is also busy being a member of the 1075 Kiss FM Events Crew and is looking forward to being a part of the Vernon Winter Carnival parade tomorrow. He is a very busy teenager!

Today marks the 1st anniversary of Amistad’s first single, RADIKAL. It’s done very well through social media and was on an Exclaim feature that lead the single to over 150,000 plays. Andrews mentioned yesterday that at one point when the song came out, more people were listening to their single then Kanye West’s single at the time.
Amistad will be playing a showcase at Vancouver’s well-known Roxy on February 17 from 7-8 PM.
They also plan to head into the studio while they are there to finish a song they started back in the fall with Grammy producer Chin Injeti.
“Amistad’s story is building since our Whistler Film Festival showcase,” says Pinheiro.
